Sarpogrelate hydrochloride is used to improve ischaemic symptoms (symptoms that may arise due to reduced blood supply to the heart) including ulcer, pain, and coldness associated with chronic arterial occlusion (a condition in which clots are formed in the artery, a blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart).
Take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take it after meal. Try to take it at the same time each day.
Sarpogrelate hydrochloride is available as a tablet or granule.
If you are taking the granule, swallow it immediately as it will leave a bitter taste if held in the mouth for a long time.
Sarpogrelate hydrochloride must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- stomach ulcer
- blood in urine
- coughing up blood
- bleeding into the jelly-like filling of the back part of your eye
- haemophilia (a rare disorder in which your blood does not clot normally)
as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
Do not take Sarpogrelate hydrochloride if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Sarpogrelate hydrochloride may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- bleeding disorder
- having menstrual period
- severe kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Sarpogrelate hydrochloride to an elderly person. Elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
For as long as you are taking this medicine, you may need to have regular laboratory tests to check your body’s response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
Sarpogrelate hydrochloride may cause any of the following side effects: nausea, heartburn (painful burning feeling in your chest or throat), stomach pain, constipation, palpitations, headache.
Some side effects may be serious, although they are not common. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience:
- sudden severe headache, seizures, weakness in an arm or leg, changes in vision, tingling or numbness, difficulty speaking, loss of balance or coordination, dizziness
- pass out blood or black, tarry stools or vomit coffee-ground-like vomitus
- bleeding from your gums or nose, easy or excessive bruising
- fever, chills, sore throat, mouth ulcers
- yellowing of the skin or eyes with abdominal pain or persistent tiredness, nausea or vomiting
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin, cilostazol, aspirin, and ticlopidine.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
